Third round entry by Keenan Cummings

Live Your Dream - Scholarship Competition Entry
By: Keenan Cummings, 24 years old.
I want to fly to make a difference. Unlike most of my student collegues, I do not want to chase the airline dream, I want to fly missions into secluded civilizations. I want to bring doctors, dentists, medical supplies, and teams of people that can help those who would otherwise be forgotten about. I want to learn the skills necessary to land on an unpaved, uphill runway that is located off of the side of a cliff. I cannot begin to imagine the thrill it brings, and the satisfaction that one feels upon being welcomed into a village bearing helpful hands, and longed for supplies.
I currently reside in Tucson, Arizona and I am 24 years old. Here, I am working toward a bachelor's degreen in aviation science through Utah Valley University's Global Aviation program. UVU offers a unique opportunity for out-of-state students to utilize a local flight training facility while working toward a degree. Participating in Utah Valley University's Global Aviation program, I've found the opportunity to continue my flight training after my local community college shut down it's aviation program, which happened as I was entering into the beginning stages of Instrument training.
I've loved airplanes since I can remember, and talking it over with fellow students, it seems as though they all feel the same way. It's like it is something that some people are just born with, and as we get older we just can't help but spend uncanny amounts of money to learn to fly. I nearly decided against it due to high flight fees, but I told myself, "I'm still in my early 20's, and I still have time. If I continue going to school for something else, I'll always wonder what it would have been like. Suck it up, and spend the money on something you really want."
Today I am entering into my junior year of college, and I am about to take my instrument written exam. I will use this scholarship to help me finish off my instrument flight training. I love what I am doing with my life, and I am excited to see where piloting will take me.
